I was asked by Kinetic Media, the production team behind the Winter Games Broadcast, to manage the webcast feed and destinations as well as create live highlight clips during the event. The production was an amazing 2 weeks spend up at Cardrona Ski Field in the South Island of New Zealand with FIS Ski and Snowboard World Cups hosted on the mountain.
On the 2017 Winter Games, I was a camera operator for most of the live and ENG events. This involved snowboarding with camera gear, laying cables at night on the mountain and operating in alpine environments.
I was also part of the team who produced the Mixed Doubles Curling Finals in Naseby. The production required specialist graphics which were created by me and a special live scoring system that used a computer via a network to effect the graphics in the switcher. It was a great streaming success with no downtime as we had a redundant encoding system on the mountain and Cardrona had recently installed a backup point-to-point network that allowed us to have our own connection. The switching specific to the web included advertising breaks, twitter updates and countdowns to the next event to keep viewers engaged.
